Blue Hue Hue – Oscars Fashions and Trending Colors
Monday, March 8th, 2010
In my last blog posting, I forecast that, although hues of blue would be a strong contender, coral would dominate the 2010 Oscars red carpet. Well, blue hue hue. Today, as I eat this hefty dose of humble pie, all I can say is “shame on you bluzy”. With the name Indigo, you’d think I’d jump all over an opportunity to promote blue. Oh well, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; even the experts get it wrong. *Crunch, crunch, crunch*
The Blue Hue Family
Oscar winner Mo’Nique, wore a cobalt blue Tadashi gown that draped and hugged in all the right places. To pay homage to Hattie McDaniel, the first African-American actress to win an Academy Award, Mo’Nique wore a white gardenia in her hair.
Gabourey Sidibe donned a blue, short-sleeved, Marchesa gown, decorated with diamond flowers. Great fit; not the best color. Nevertheless, it won’t be what she wore, but instead, Sidibe’s commentary about what she wore, i.e. “If fashion was porn, this dress is the money shot”, that will leave its mark and certainly go down in history as one of the red carpet’s most memorable quotes.
Actress and Oscar presenter Kristen Stewart exercised her fashionista muscle in a Monique Lhuillier, midnight blue, belted mermaid gown.
Oprah too chose blue, wearing a stunning Carolina Herrera midnight blue faille and double organza gown.
Sidebar: Did you know that Oprah is auctioning off a ton of her clothes on eBay from now through March 11th?
Even Robert Downey, Jr. threw us some shade, accessorizing his Lanvin tux with a teal bowtie and donning a pair of Oliver Peoples Sheldrake, custom blue tinted lens glasses
Other Popular Hues
Love this gorgeous bordeaux, satin pleated draped Donna Karan Couture gown worn by the lovely Penelope Cruz. Check out the asymmetrical strapless neckline. Awesome feature for a woman who has undergone a mastectomy.
I was completely enamored with Dana Owens aka Queen Latifah’s look. Dana wore the perfect figure flattering mauve, one-shoulder Badgely Mischka gown. Always seen sporting flawless hair and makeup to match, Dana continues to lead the “awesomeness” pack on the red carpet.
Finally, we come to my favorite look of the evening. When Demi Moore walked on stage, I lost my breath! Okay, Ms. Zoe, you worked this one out and I am not mad at you for digging into the archives either.
Fashion critics agree that Demi looked incredible. But, agreeing on the hue of this stunning Atelier Versace, strapless gown, seen first on the 2008 runways . . . well, let’s just say that’s a horse of a different color. I’ve seen blush and nude used on occasions, to describe the hue of the beautifully tiered frock. What color am I calling it? Why none other than coral, of course.

No matter what others say, I think it is still interesting and useful maybe necessary to improve some minor things
This is my first visit here, but I will be back soon, because I really like the way you are writing, it is so simple and honest
@Shoe. Yesterday I tweeted that I thought it was the worse dress of the night. I’m retracting that statement. The fact is, it’s not the dress I dislike but more the dress on Sarah. Unless she’s attempting to disguise some major lbs gained over the past few months (wow, maybe she’s pregnant), the Channel Couture frock did nothing but overpower her petite frame. The last time I saw SJP (on television of course) her body looked amazing. I say flaunt it while you have it because “fine” and “tight” don’t last always.
You didn’t mention anything about SJP’s dress. There’s been so many mixed reviews. Personally, I liked it but I heard it was on the worse dress list today. What’s your take?
