Honeysuckle Offers a Little Something for Everyone (Video)

Friday, February 25th, 2011

It's not the fragrance of the honeysuckle flower that draws the hummingbird to its nectar; it's the color.

.

VIDEO BELOW
Honeysuckle.  According to Pantone Color Institute, it’s the color of the year, but for most men, even the name intimidates.  What’s more, this color’s mere pink hue is enough to turn many men off.  But honeysuckle is not a little girl’s pink; this sophisticated pink is for grown folks.  Used in smaller dosages, honeysuckle can work quite well even on the most testosterone-driven man.

About honeysuckle.  It’s said that the fruit doesn’t fall far from the tree, and honeysuckle’s mother, red, is the most physical, viscerally alive hue in the spectrum. Be prepared for an immediate boost in your look and overall feeling when you don this color.

Here’s an interesting fact:  It’s not the fragrance of the honeysuckle flower that attracts the hummingbird to its nectar; it’s the color.  With that said, expect a bit of magnetism when you wear this hue.

How to incorporate honeysuckle into your wardrobe. Men can inject instant verve and vigor into their spring wardrobe by incorporating bits of honeysuckle. For the daring, pair a honeysuckle colored shirt with a navy, grey or charcoal suits. Alternatively, for a more corporate look, choose a striped design tie to offset the color with more masculine hues such as brown, navy or grey. Do keep in mind that this is a high intensity color. Make sure your attitude mirrors that intensity. Honeysuckle is a great color for warding off the winter blues. Try it! Add this lively hue to your wardrobe today.

(Video) Lawyers Need to Get Back to Dressing Like Lawyers

Monday, January 24th, 2011

I’ve worked in the legal industry for more than 15 years and have seen a number of changes. The most obvious change surrounds business attire. Lawyers, particularly those new to the field, seem to have forgotten that their profession is one of the highest paying and most prestigious careers on Earth. Why else would those working in an industry where “smart” dressing is the uniform of a powerful and successful lawyer dumb down to a more slovenly approach to dressing?  I remember a time when aspiring professionals could learn a lot about dressing professionally from attorneys. Today, it’s hard to differentiate who’s the attorney and who’s staff. Clearly, dress codes for today’s lawyers are much different than they were 15 years ago.  Still, looking crisp, polished, authoritative and professional, even when wearing business casual attire, rules.  Whether choosing to sport a power suit or a relaxed look, lawyers should always dress to impress.

  • Take Pride in Your Look and Your Profession
Take pride in your image as an attorney.  You’ve worked hard to earn that J.D.  Look the part.
  • Buy the Highest Quality Clothing You Can Afford
Invest in a high-quality suits.  Avoid less expensive, trendier outfits. Classics will stand the test of time. You can always spice things up with accessories.
  • Ladies, Make Sure You’re Wearing the Right Foundations
Consider the quintessential items that should go underneath; Undergarments. That includes everything from Bras and Camisoles to Control Tops and Body Shapers.  These often forgotten pieces can truly make or break your look.
  • Wear Colors that Flatter You
Based on your hair color, eye color and skin tone, some colors will naturally look better on you than others. Take the time to find out which colors flatter you most and build your wardrobe accordingly.
  • Find a Really Great Tailor
Fit is paramount.  Ill-fitted clothes look cheap no matter how much they cost. Get referrals from the well-dressed people at your firm.
  • Find a Good Dry Cleaners, Too
Ask your fashionable friends who they use and try different ones before making a decision.
  • Wear Jewelry Judiciously
Tasteful accessories and jewelry can add interest to any outfit. A classic, but understated watch is a most.
  • Stay Light on Perfume and Cologne
Like jewelry, too much of a good thing is not a good thing at all. Think about how you reacted the last time you were trapped in an elevator with someone wearing way too much cheap perfume. Don’t let that be you!
  • It’s Better to Overdress than Underdress
Nobody will fault you if you dress too nicely. And you can always “dress down” if you feel overdressed in a particular situation.

Check out these videos to help you put together a powerful look.

Michelle Obama Style – Total Win for Chinese President’s U.S. Visit

Saturday, January 22nd, 2011

FLOTUS Michelle Obama looking stunning!

Regardless of what Designer Oscar de la Renta thinks — discussed in detail below — first Lady Michelle Obama flexed her style muscle this week.  During Chinese President Hu Jintao’s  U.S. visit, Mrs. Obama gave us two very different but equally stunning head-to-toe looks, with flawless hair and makeup to match.

Day Look

Serbian-born designer Roksanda Ilincic created Mrs. Obama’s day look, a navy-blue dress embellished with gunmetal and silver latticework-and-roses embroidery and matching top-coat. Completing the look, FLOTUS wore over-the-knee black suede boots, adding just the right amount of pop with red patent leather gloves.

Evening Look

For the White House State dinner, Mrs. Obama wore an Alexander McQueen sleeveless, petal-print silk organza gown. Created by Sarah Burton who succeeded McQueen following his death, the off-one-shoulder frock, done in a warm red – a color which symbolizes happiness and prosperity in Chinese culture – featured an asymmetrical neckline and a full skirt that complimented the First Lady’s silhouette.  To complete the look, First Lady O wore a fringed shawl and sported an elegant updo hairstyle, perfect for displaying her one-of-a-kind black geode and ruby Kimberly McDonald earrings.

Fashion Notables in the House

Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of American Vogue magazine, attended the State dinner, accompanied by her companion Shelby Bryan. The two made a striking and imposingly good looking couple.

Fashion designer Vera Wang also appeared with her husband, successful businessman Arthur Becker. And speaking of Vera Wang, some fashion critiques felt a celebration for a Chinese president, with a further focus on promoting American-Chinese trade, warranted attire spotlighting the creativity of China or an American designer with a familial Chinese connection   Fashion designer Oscar de la Renta publicly criticized the FLOTUS’  choice to wear two British-based designers.  de la Renta told WWD “My understanding is that the visit was to promote American-Chinese trade – American products in China and Chinese products in America. Why do you wear European clothes?”   de la Renta has dressed every First Lady in the past 30 years except Mrs. Obama.
