16 + 39 = 1 Fabulously Modern and Affordable Plus Size Wardrobe

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

I just came across this auction. If this isn’t a reason to love eBay I don’t know what is.  Auction 150420828940 is this stunning 39-piece plus size wardrobe and it has your name on it if you are: (1) size 16; (2) rectangle or inverted triangle shaped; and (3) a warm spring undertone beauty. Packed with pieces to get you through the week, you’ll find Monday morning career options, Friday night out-on-the-town picks and even adorable outfits for the weekend.  I like the fact that many pieces are new with tags. Those pieces that are slightly used appear to be in excellent condition. But, most impressive is the seller’s lookbook.  As a seller myself, I understand and appreciate the laboriousness behind this listing.

If this wardrobe speaks to you, DO contact the seller and inquire about bust, waist, hip and inseam measurements; Seller claims to not accept returns.  More importantly, DON’T delay.  This bid ends March 12, 2010 at 10:40 PM PST.

Here are some of my favorites from the Seller’s Lookbook.

A pretty white top with lace detail by Crazy Horse, size L. Paired with dark brown crop cargo pants by Crazy Horse, size 16.

eBay Webinar Training Survey

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

It all began with a $100 pair of front row tickets to see Erykah Badu and Floetry.  Before long, I owned a deep discounted Volvo C70 convertible.   Next came countless designer clothing and shoes, many still with tags, including “hell yeah”  Prada and Claudia Ciuti boots and Current Elliot boyfriend jeans.  With increased confidence came larger purchases:  HDTVs, Raymond Weil watches even a Macbook Pro that cost under $650.  And just today, my newest love came in the mail; a gorgeous baby blue leather jacket that cost all of $39 bucks!  Yep, I’m the eBay queen and I have lots of tricks up my sleeve.

Let me show  you how to save $1,000 of dollars.  Own items from around the world without breaking the bank.  Whether you’re looking to buy or sell Biggie Smalls memorabilia on this 13th anniversary of his death, or you’re trying to get your hands on one of those trending blue Oscars dresses, or maybe you’re looking to recreate a Michelle Obama Fashion look eBay has it.

Video – The Charming Tory Burch

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

In fashion, scale is the first cousin to proportion and should dictate ones choice of clothing construction, accessories and jewelry.  For example, take this adorable charm bracelet from designer Tory Burch.  It is perfect for a petite dynamo or any woman with small scaled body features. The dainty charms symbolize love, peace and prosperity, each empowering in its own right.  But I am most impressed with the fact that 100% of the proceeds received from each purchase goes to the Tory Burch Foundation.  Under Ms. Burch’s direction, the Tory Burch Foundation helps women access financial tools which improve their lives.  Charming indeed!

Underneath it All – Finding the Right Underwear (Tops)

Beneath it All

Beneath it All

Ladies, when you’re shopping for that perfect outfit, don’t forget to consider the quintessential items that should go underneath; Undergarments.  That includes everything from Bras and Camisoles to Control Tops and Body Shapers.  These often forgotten pieces can truly make or break your look.

When selecting foundation pieces, the two important factors to remember are fit and function.

Begin by visiting your local lingerie store.  Work with a trained sales specialist to select properly fitted garments that meet your specific needs.  After making that first visit, shop with ease on the Internet.

Maidenform is a leading manufacturer of bras, panties, and shapewear offering high quality, comfortable and well fitting products to its customers.

Another online distributor to consider is Bigger Bras.  Bigger Bras offers a large selection of bras, lingerie, medical support bras, nursing bras and more. In addition to brand name plus size bras (up to size 50K) and lingerie such as Aviana, Empress, Empriente, Goddess, Playtex, Vanity Fair and one of Oprah’s Favorite Bras, Le Mystere, Bigger Bras has an impressive selection of bras for the smaller woman beginning at size 32 AA.

To assist you with understanding the various functions of undergarments, I’ve put together a list summarizing the more common undergarments available for women today, descriptions of their specific functions and purposes, and some tips for wearing them well.  Today’s list focuses on those lovely pieces worn on the upper body.

Garments intended for upper body coverage fall into two categories: those for coverage and modesty, and those for support.

Camisoles fall into the former category. Camisoles (String-strap t-shirts, shells, shifts, and demi-slips) provide coverage for the upper torso of the body.  Designed in most part to be worn under other garments, it’s not uncommon to see them rocked solo.

Brassieres provide support for the girls and come in a number of styles for specific needs.

Sports bras, those snug-fitting, cupless garments that resemble a cut off athletic tee, are usually made of Lycra or other stretchy fabrics. Sports bras are designed to protect the breast by holding them closely and securely to the body during physical activities such as exercise.

Under-wire bras are designed with some form of ribbing or ‘boning’ inserted in the base of the bra’s cups. They provide definition and extra support to the breasts. If you have large or oddly-shaped breasts, this is the bra for you.

Padded bras have padding added to the cups. These are great for girls like me that belong to the itty bitty titty committee.  Padded bras also benefit women who have lost weight and notice some shrinkage in the breasts.

Half-cup/Push-up bras’ purpose is to lift and support the breasts from the underside.  Wear this type of bra with low-cut and scoop-necked blouses and dresses to avoid brassiere peak-a-boo. Half-cup/Push-up bras are also great for creating cleavage and giving the appearance of significantly larger breasts.

Strapless bras have no over-the-shoulder support straps and are designed to wear with strapless garments. Many strapless bras extend farther down the torso to provide added support, however newer versions are little more than skin-adhesive silicone cups that are adhered to the breasts and offer some minor shaping and support.

Petite Belt Rules

Petite Dynamo Carrie Underwood

Petite Dynamo Carrie Underwood

Since the beginning of her husband’s campaign trail, we’ve witnessed first lady Michelle Obama’s ingenious ability to transform a simple outfit into a fashion statement by incorporating a wide belt.  Needless to say, fashionable women around the globe have followed suit.  But for the petite woman, pulling off this coveted trend can be tricky.  The same wide belt worn by a tall woman like Mrs. Obama, would take up half the torso of a petite woman’s frame.  So what’s a petite dynamo to do?  We’ve listed seven pointers to help you tighten your fashion belt game.

  1. Before incorporating a wide, waist-cinching belt into your wardrobe, take an honest look in the mirror and do it in the buff.  It’s true that a belt can accentuate your waist, but belts also accentuate body flaws.  Know yours.  The wrong belt will emphasize full hips or a wide rear end.
  2. Make sure that the width of your belt is proportionate to your height.  A belt that covers up too much torso, creates a choppy silhouette.
  3. The top of the belt should hit at about the middle of your ribcage. Wearing a belt higher than that will start to manipulate the proportions.
  4. Of course there are always exceptions to the rule.  If you have a thicker waistline, move the belt up slightly higher to create an almost empire-waist effect. (See photograph of Carrie Underwood above.)  Doing so, draws attention to what is likely the narrowest part of your body and creates a longer, leaner leg-line.
  5. When wearing a wide belt, tone down your jewelry. Oversize earrings work but consider omitting a necklace.  Allow the belt to create a statement on its own.
  6. A wide belt makes a delightful juxtaposition to a top with pleating or ruching.  But if there’s beading or embroidery, keep the belt simple.  Again, you don’t want various pieces of your wardrobe vying for attention.
  7. Finally, your belt doesn’t have to match your shoes or bag, but it should complement them.
